Hatch asked Megan Mejia, owner of local bridal boutique, Lighthouse Bridal, for her expertise on what to think about before shopping for your bridal gown. Not your turn yet to walk down the aisle? Megan’s tips are timeless, so pack these away for your future big day!
Tip #1: Be open and honest with your bridal stylist.
When booking your appointment, be honest about your budget and be open about trying all different styles of gowns. You never know what you may fall in love with and say ‘yes’ too in the end.
Tip #2: Have a clear vision of your wedding day.
Most brides that are shopping for their gown have already chosen a date and booked a wedding venue which can sometimes drive the vision of your day. If you’re having a beach wedding, consider the climate of the day and the elements of your ceremony. If you’re having a ballroom wedding or religious wedding, consider the vibe and do your research of carried designers before booking your appointment. This can really help clear your mind going into gown shopping.
Tip #3: Know your personal style.
Our main motto in the shop is: We believe you should do you, and you only, on your wedding day. Your wedding gown should reflect your personal style and you should simply look like your gorgeous, authentic self on your wedding day. Your spouse is marrying you, for you! Choose a gown that reflects your personal style and makes you feel most like YOU.
Tip #4: Bring your core friends and family.
We strongly recommend only bringing your most beloved friends and family to your appointment. You will have a clearer mindset and have less opinions during your consultation. Always remember, YOU are the one wearing the dress, not your tribe. Don’t let anyone make or pressure you into a decision you are not comfortable with.
Tip #5: Don’t be afraid to say ‘yes’ to the dress you love!
We absolutely understand thinking about it, sleeping on it, and shopping around, but if you love a dress–say ‘yes’! Saying ‘yes’ to the dress will ease your mind and allow you ample time for ordering and tailoring. It will also set the mood for the rest of the bridal style throughout your wedding. After choosing a gown, you can create a moodboard with your groom’s attire and bridal party. Don’t hold back, say ‘yes’!
