GALentines—you’ve probably seen it covered everywhere from your social media feed to the dollar section at Target!
For the last few years, Galentines has provided me the perfect, slightly silly, excuse to bring some of my favorite girls together and it could be the same for you. But I think what stops most of us from hosting a party, whether it’s for Galentines, a birthday, or just because, is the often unspoken pressures of hosting.
Will anyone want to come?
What will I feed them?
Do I have to decorate?
I am NOT an event planner!
Or at least those are just some of the things I have definitely thought, and my guess is, I am not alone. So here are my 3 go-to pieces of hosting advice (from a non-event planner) for Galentines or any party!
1. Don’t make everything. If the great Barefoot Contessa admits to buying at least one part of her meal when hosting a dinner party, girl, you can certainly do the same.
Stock up on Trader Joe’s snacks—because everyone loves them.
Find a local bakery for some little treats that will keep everyone happy and keep you from sweating in the kitchen.
If you just can’t help yourself and want to cook, make one thing that you know you can do with your eyes closed!
2. Set up a make-your-own, cocktail/beverage bar; this way your guests can get exactly what they want and you won’t be making and remaking the same Pinterest-worthy drink over and over again!
Get an assortment of La Croix or your favorite sparkling waters—I also love the Belvoir elderflower and rose lemonades you can find at Fresh Market!
Put out a variety of options to mix with, think Vodka, Tequila, and Gin.
Gather up pretty, flavorful garnishes like limes, mint, basil, strawberries, pomegranate seeds, blackberries, and we could probably keep going! I have found that these little bars end up creating something fun for people to do as they create their own favorite flavors, like a Lime La Croix with blackberries, mint, and tequila!
3. If you want to decorate, think of things you can use over and over again. I am not the craftiest and decorations can get so pricy really quickly—Target is a dangerous place after all!
One of the best hosting calls I made a really long time ago was to invest in pretty, neutral colored decorations that I could keep and reuse over and over again. I have used the same pieces for Galentines parties, birthday parties, showers, and more!
“That’s what life is all about: Let’s have a party. Let’s have it tonight.” Lilly Pulitzer.
Don’t skip the chance to bring people together, whether it’s Galentines or any other occasion, you’ll always be happy you did!
