If you ask me, summer is the season in South Florida to remain inside. Contrary to other parts of the country, where people celebrate the arrival of the sunny/warm season, Floridians could complain on and on about the heat–and rightfully so. With temperatures rising well above 90 degrees, committing to an outdoor activity can be a risky idea, unless you’re okay with your makeup melting like a Picasso painting. With that, I am here to give you some indoor fun activity options that will keep you entertained and cool.
Get pampered during Miami Spa Month. If you struggle with spending money on yourself, this is the time to do it on a budget, sort of. Miami’s best spas offer incredible deals in July and August. Some of them are located within luxurious Miami hotels and provide access to other facilities like the pool. If you ‘insist’ on breaking a sweat, you may be able to use their steam room and sauna. From massages to facials to pedicures, there is probably an option out there that’s perfect for you.
I know this is a summer activity post, but a girl’s gotta eat. If you agree that food is always a good idea, then you’ll want to try Julia & Henry’s. A market-style eatery that not only offers plenty of food and drink options, but also live music and events depending on the day of the week you visit, must-try.
Pretend you’re a tourist and take a spin in the Water Taxi. If you want to see Fort Lauderdale from a different perspective, you can hop on this staple boat. The entire tour takes three hours but you can easily hop on and off for drinks, food, and sightseeing at the different scheduled and on-demand stops.
Get ready to crash with bumper cars on ice. Boca Ice in Boca Raton is a fun option that won’t have you melting out in the sun. The best part is rides are only $10 and anyone in the family can ride!
Dust off the bowling shoes. Dania Pointe’s Bowlero features 30 bowling lanes, a sports bar, and an arcade where you can let your competitive side run wild.
Putt Shack in Brickell City Center is a super fun, indoor mini-golf experience. With a bar and DJ, this is a great place for an active date that won’t involve copious amounts of sweat.
Visit a winery. It’s wine o’clock somewhere, and Schnebly Redland’s Winery knows it. You may not think of Miami when it comes to wineries, but Schnebly is a hidden gem located in Homestead where you can try unconventional wines made with exotic tropical fruits. If you are open to trying new flavors, this is a great option to surprise your palette. As a bonus, and if wine is not your thing, they also have a brewery on site.
While in the Homestead area, and if you’re into plants, consider visiting Isaac Farms. With a wide selection of succulents and other plants and flowers, plant parents will enjoy this stop.
Try a new brewery. Whether you’re into beer or not, I think we can all agree this is a refreshing beverage option. You can find great options to try with friends in every county. From Veza Sur in Wynwood, to Funky Buddha in Broward, to Civil Society Brewing Co. in Palm Beach, and many others throughout South Florida, this is a fun option to try with friends. Cheers!
Last, but not least, and if you insist on being outside, South Florida has great water park options like Rapids in Palm Beach County and Tidal Cove Water Park at the JW Marriott Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura. Additionally, some local parks have water slides you can enjoy on a budget like Water Cove Water Park in Pembroke Pines and Splash Adventures in Deerfield.
Whether you decide to go outside or stay in, don’t forget to wear sunscreen. Happy Summer!
